In the minds some, Obama's recent back to school speech was actually part of a secret plan to indoctrinate the country's youth. Many conservative parents are convinced that the President was using this platform as a means of pushing partisan politics to their kids.
Has the political scene in America devolved to such an extent that the President can't even speak in front of children without being accused of some ulterior motive? Unfortunately, this appears to be the case.
I've always believed that one of the many roles one assumes as President is to serve as a source of inspiration for future generations. As far as I can see, the President was doing just that, giving children someone to look up to. There's no evidence to suggest that his true purpose was some kind of liberal brainwashing. Obama should be applauded, not demonized, for his efforts to engage the youth of America in a meaningful manner.
Also discouraging is the method with which the administration has chosen to respond to these baseless accusations. Instead of acting with the righteous outrage such an absurd claim deserves, the administration has tried to assuage the people behind it.
Immediately wilting in the face of public opposition has traditionally been a weakness of the Democratic Party. Their propensity for acting defensive only lends credence, regardless of actual merit, to their opponents. Members of the opposition are well aware of this trait and have zero qualms using it to their own advantage.

An interesting topic to bring up – I’m not sure what exactly the controversy I keep hearing of is actually even about, although there seems to be a great deal of it over what seems to be a benign speech about kids needing to set goals and take responsibility for their future.
I have yet to see data or evidence which lends substance to the accusation that the President is indoctrinating children. Is there any sense of responsibility to reporting on objective reality when media outlets treat these accusations as plausible without evidence? I suppose not.
I suspect that the noxious fumes of partisan air generated in the heat of the health care debate have spilled over into to a sort of generalized ‘conspiracy theory’ attitude over even the most trivial of activities by the President.
I must avoid being selective in my criticism; if the party of the President were reversed, then it is perfectly plausible that Democratic organizations or politicians would be likewise capable of making the same groundless accusations within such an environment.
Minds which see the world in black and white are some of the most fertile in believing that others inherently have ulterior motives for everything.
Well said – I agree that the administration has been surprisingly ineffective in raising its voice over the noise. Obama is an exceptional speaker, but I’ve noticed that it sometimes takes him time to find his stride.
I couldn't agree more. I find it embarrassing that the right wing supporters can't look past their political differences and acknowledge that the President is a very influential, motivating figure to schoolchildren. He's like you said: simply acting to engage young citizens in ways that promotes ethically motivated, civic lifestyles, not subconsciously feed them liberal propaganda. And unfortunately, as you also mentioned, the Democrats defend by idly smiling and trying to placate their opponents, which only creates more problems. They either need to fess up or vehemently deny these accusations.
I'm assuming that the Democrats are trying to take the "high road" approach and just shrugging it off. As much as I respect that, it just doesn't work in regards to the American population as a whole. Silence can sometimes be interpreted as admittance. No matter what Obama does and how noble his intentions, some people are going to try to spin it and make it look like something from Nazi Germany. Partisan politics are tearing this nation apart and it's really quite a shame.
I completely agree. You hit the nail right on the head. Its really sad that people would think that the President would try and endoctrinate children. That's completely ridiculous!!! No, one ever said anything about Bush or Clinton or any other President talking to children. This crap is just bull. And I do agree that a weakness of the democratic party is to not defend themselves or stand up for things. I think alot of times democrats are too worried about making everyone happy without just trying to do what is right and what needs to be done.
you are right...but I think Dems have it tough. On one hand they have to make White voters feel like they are not too pro-black, on the other hand they try to make people feel they're not soft on crime or social issues because they want rights for everyone. It's also tough when republicans are willing to fight wars while bankrupting the country and Dems have to convince the people that we cannot afford it...people will start calling you unpatriotic, but I commend the Dems for doing what they're doing. If left up to conservatives, we would be living in a country that will be similar to Iran in terms of social freedom...afterall, Iranian leaders are also conservatives.
